Color palettes fascinate me. In another life, I’d love to be a trend forecaster whose focus is solely on everything color-related. But for now? Well, I just call the trends as I see them! And with fall quickly approaching I thought it time we get inspired for some redecorating  (or wardrobe sorting!) according to the fall color palettes that we’re loving right now.

To quickly sum them up: Mauve, dusty pastels, and rusty hues are dominating. Green is coming in as a close second with sage and forest. A touch of warm greys and you’re all set for fall.

Mauve (and More!)

This photo is pretty much my favorite thing in the world right now. A pink marble dining table with a rich, mauve channeled banquette? Yes please. The layers of color here are kind of magic. The addition of a soft grey-blue is helping tame all the pink and red hues too.

Berry tones are always on for fall, but here, they’re paired with mauve (or dusty pink) for a tone-on-tone kind of look. I also love the way it looks with sage – another color that is so on right now.

Dusty Tones

Not sure what to make of this term, ‘dusty’? Basically, you take a color, lighten it up, and add grey. It’s very grandma chic, and not quite pastel. Here, rusty actually gets dusty, turning this tone into more of a saturated nude. Another hue that has been making a comeback – taupe! This yummy warm grey (not to be confused with khaki) is a favorite of mine. I like to call it ‘mushroom’ or ‘putty’.

This blue is SO good. It’s a classic shade, but paired with mustard, it feels unique and modern, yet not overwhelming. You’ll see a dose of golden yellows throughout these palettes.

Oh yes – and forest greens. Green seems to be sticking around as a trend (and an obvious favorite of mine, too). If you’re looking to pair your dusty hues with a richer tone that’s still subtle (as opposed the berry hues in those first few images), this green should be your new best friend.

Rusted

It’s rare that I enjoy a primary-based color palette (red, blue and yellow) but in these versions, YES! Rust, pale blue, and golden mustard are definitely working for me in this eclectic space.

Feeling a holiday palette inspiration coming on? I certainly am…

In this very saturated palette, giving the color room to breathe (with gorgeous wallpaper, no less) is essential. And do you spy that hint of sage green in the side table? Love that little addition in here! A touch of gold finishes things off.

And when in doubt? Go tone on tone with your color trends, then add a touch of grey, and you can’t go wrong. This room does it in a major way, but practice it in your smaller accents too!
