When I moved into my loft, I didn’t want to let the style of the home dictate too much of what the interior would look like… but it’s hard not to let that happen with brick walls and an open floor plan. So, now that I’m about to have a whole house to decorate, I’m revisiting some of my old favorite spaces to gain some new inspiration rooted in the designs that feel timeless to me…
This sweet cottage space belonging to Stephen Shubel has always stood out to me – specifically the living room. A bit preppy, but relaxed, the use of light neutrals and dashes of black are intriguing. Those stools especially!
The piping on those linen chairs is one of my favorite elements, as are the roll up shades. I also love the use of natural materials – always a must for me in my own home.
The house feels very European to me, with all its antiques, and I think I’d prefer a few more modern touches in my own home, but it’s a beautiful reminder to me of how they can all work together…
It takes a brave – and usually experienced – designer to work with scale in such a small space. This oversized pedestal and bust, however, are simply awesome in the way they divide the living room from the dining room.
Mismatched dining chairs are always a favorite too. But how does one get the look when there are so many unique antiques? Well, luckily, there are always options…
1. white studded pillow // 2. green pillow // 3. leather tray // 4. white slipcovered chair // 5. plaster bust // 6. modern lamp // 7. striped drapes // 8. hide rugs // 9. black sculptural side table // 10. basket
It’s all about recreating the base elements. The hide rugs that lay over the whitewashed floor, plenty of black and white, a pop of colored stripes, and natural materials. I’m especially obsessed with the option of those linen striped curtains where the color won’t be so saturated, and I won’t have to put stripes on a sofa…. hmmmm…
