Heeeeeeey friends! I’m SO excited to be bringing back the One Room Challenge to coco+kelley for my second time around!! You might remember that the last round had me tackling our first room in the house right after moving in with my boyfriend. It was a lesson in compromise and merging styles. Which was a fun challenge and all, but this time I’m getting to do a room all my own…
If you want a full look at the room, you can see a previous post here when I painted it for the first time. Yes, we’re now painting it BACK to a neutral. No, I wasn’t super happy about that, but I did have fun doing it! (If you saw my snapchat, you know what I’m talking about!)
And what’s it going to be, you ask? Well… see, I have a lot of clothes. And shoes. And hats. And our bedroom? It has storage the size of a small coat closet (no exaggerating) and that’s just not working for me. So, this is going to be MY CLOSET! And I have six short weeks to do it in.
There are a LOT of things to plan here. Some practical (where will the clothes hang and the shoes be stored?), but first – we start with the inspiration! At first, I thought I wanted to go really peach or pink on the walls – after all this is my one girly space in the house…
And I loved the vibe of this room. Lots of tone on tone, a great mix of textures, and feminine without being overly girly. But then I decided one really important thing. I wanted wallpaper.
Once I decided that, I knew that the color scheme would really be up to whatever paper I chose. I narrowed things down to these four, and – let me tell ya – it was a tough decision. I knew a few things – that the wallpaper had to be light, and had to be something that I would love for a long time. And, honestly? Turning down two Fornasetti designs was the hardest decision ever, but in the end, I went with this gorgeous organic pattern from Portland design house makelike… and it set the tone for the rest of the room!

So far – this is the plan. The wallpaper has these awesome hits of aqua and yellow in it, and I’m using that to add a little kick to the space. Everything else will be floaty and neutral. Because it’s an attic, I didn’t want to go with anything too traditional in here – it would start to feel grandma real fast. So most of my selections are simple but modern.
What do you think so far? I think the biggest challenge for me is going to be figuring out storage, doing things on somewhat of a budget (where to splurge and where to save!) and dealing with the fact that this is an attic space (low ceilings!). But I’m REALLY excited to have a room like this in the house that will be my own little escape!
