On this final day of January, I’m borrowing a theme from my personal reflections earlier this month to bring you a home full of simplicity. A little bit country, and a little bit mid-century, this house tour features a style I’m calling Modern Shaker. It’s pared down, but warm and surprisingly welcoming.
In my January moodboard post, I talked about how stripping a room down to its bare elements is sometimes the best way to remember where you’re starting from and where you want to go (a nice little metaphor for life, too, as it turns out). This room is just that – bare bones but not without personality. It has room to grow into itself.
The dining room is the same…
Of all the spaces in the home, this and the sunroom are by far my favorites. Although there is one bedroom that I really love too (you’ll have to guess which! keep reading!). I’m slightly obsessed with the chairs here and recently found a pair of them on Chairish, so if you love them, snatch them up quick before I do! I’ve been wanting to get two new head chairs for our dining table and these would be perfect.
By the way, the designer of this space, C.S. Valentin, was noted recently in Remodelista’s list of emerging designers to watch, and I have to agree. His style is simple and lovely. (In fact, I discovered this house tour via Remodelista as well!)
Now about that sunroom…
This space sits just off another living room and I have to say the obsession with chairs throughout this house continues. I’ve said this a million times, but I’ll say it again – the singular reason I love minimalism is that it allows beautiful forms to shine in a space. The same holds true here!
Another interesting repeat in the space is the use of table lamps on wall-mounted shelves. I think it’s a fun use of space! And especially smart if space is at a minimum. Here, it simply opens things up a bit more. You’ll see it again in one of the bedrooms.
The home boasts three bedrooms and this lovely, serene study. Can you even call it that if there’s not a single book in sight? It feels more like a meditation and nap room. Either way, that sunlight is divine.
Yes, this is my favorite bedroom. Because, fireplace!! And that rug. I like the smart use of that random little nook behind the door as a place to stash quick hang-up items. You can’t go wrong with all-white bedding when the rug is as fantastic as that one, too.
The attic houses the final bedroom and the only room in the house with those whitewashed floors and black trim! I like the change-up here. Because why not? I’m not sure if that’s a desk or vanity in the eaves there, but either way, I’ll take it.

For me, it’s the reminder that those stand-out pieces (chairs galore!) help make a space feel super special. Not every piece in the home has to be practical.
