What’s a girl to do this time of year when her heart is dreaming of sunny California escapes, but her feet are firmly planted in piles of snow? Well, decorate of course….

Thankfully, I’m skipping the snow at the moment since I traded my usual Fashion Week trip for one to Morocco (5 days and counting!), but were I to be stuck in the weather on the east coast, I have a feeling I’d be making the most of it by taking a cue from the bohemian inspired decor in this traditional chalet.

This space is a glowing example of the mantra ‘There are no rules’. With layers of brightly colored textiles and plenty of modern lines, this mountain cabin embraces an overall style that would be more at home in sunny Los Angeles instead of the French Alps.

The only acknowledgement of the home’s snowy climate are the piles of furs and hides covering some of the furnishings.

Even the kitchen has joined in on this unconventional, cheery decor. Although… I’m not sure I love it in this all-wood environment – the mosaic tiles don’t really shine the way they could in a more simple backdrop.

There are also touches of asian influence throughout the home in the lighting and some textiles, giving this home a truly eclectic style. While the main seating area in front of the huge fireplace and the outdoor (brrr!) dining area are probably my two favorites in this home, I’m applauding the look all around for its completely unconventional take on cabin living.

Here’s how we would recreate it for our own home…

What do you think of this bold style? Would you err towards more traditional decor for a cabin escape, or do you like the new energy this brings to a usually-predictable space?
