As we dig into remodeling our office kitchen, I’ve been obsessing lately over materials and details… most of which we won’t likely be seeing in our own kitchen, but that doesn’t stop a girl from dreaming…

The second I saw this custom side-by-side freezer and fridge in rustic wood, I kind of died. I’m not a huge fan of so much stainless steel in a kitchen, and I love it when designers opt to make the appliances seamless with the cabinetry. This, however, kind of does the opposite – it makes them the center of attention… and I’m digging it. The way the rustic wood works with the beams is pretty cool. (For the record, however, I’m not sure I like that sharp contrast between the wood and the cream cabinetry though.)

This little detail might be one of my most favorite discoveries. Funny how the smallest things can have the biggest impact! The carved wood handles on these doors – and the fact that they are contrasting with the paint – adds such a cool geometric, architectural feel. Very mid-century modern, in my opinion, but updated to today’s sensibilities.

For those whose kitchens allow for some little storage space (or perhaps you have a corner like this in your dining room?) I love the idea of saving a little spot for a nook. A perfect place to thumb through your cookbooks, or perch while watching the chef get to work!
