Now that we’re midway through September, I thought it appropriate to start showing off some interiors to get you in the mood for fall decorating, starting with the beautiful home of Jacey Duprie, designed by Martha Mulholland and recently featured on AD

This home was delighting to me on a variety of levels, but the fact this historical craftsman house tour could easily be mistaken for a home here in Seattle – not Los Angeles where it actually is located – is what drew me to it in the first place! We see so many Southern California homes decorated in airy, organic textures with touches of boho or bright colors, and this home is the opposite of that in the best way possible.

Perhaps the most ‘California’ style room is the more casual sunroom located just off the formal living room, and I really love its down-to-earth style. I also appreciate that it’s not overly crowded, but more of an easy flexible seating area that also happens to house my favorite moment in the home: this breakfast nook.

I’m not gonna lie – this was the room that stopped me mid-scroll when seeing this home for the first time. The House of Hackney wallpaper here combined with those black bentwood and cane chairs and the most perfect fabric drapes is a moment. This being a historical home, the preservation of some details like the antique pendant make perfect sense and I appreciate the fact that some of them were kept while others replaced.

In the living room, more history prevails in the original fireplace, which was no doubt a bit of a challenge to work around. The substantial rust curtains really make a difference here in balancing out the visual heaviness of those tiles. They move your eye through the space, and help create other focal points. The lightness of the sconces and other decor above the mantel also really lend to modernizing this historical detail.

I love how moody and cozy this room can feel with a fire going!

And speaking of moody, let’s talk about this gorgeous formal dining space…

With so much dark paneling, you almost miss the gorgeous green color on the walls (Benjamin Moore Century Terre Verte), but it adds such a nice depth to this space and pulls out the tiniest bit of green in the stained glass window.  I’m really into the selection of woven chairs in here to lighten things up a bit while still feeling very substantial in such a grand room.

And can we take a moment to just acknowledge all the gorgeous rugs in this home?? So good.

Upstairs, you’ll find the master bedroom with a nice balance of masculine and feminine. The darker bedroom gives way to this lovely sitting area where I can imagine escaping from reality for a bit of reading and relaxing!

The master bath is lovely and classic with updated touches in the lighting and hardware. What I wouldn’t give for a shower that large, and a bath to soak in too!!

As you can imagine, Jacey’s closet is heavenly (she is a fashion blogger after all) and thoughtfully designed. But the most special spot in this upstairs haven might be this little vanity nook that’s all things glamorous and girly.

It’s so special to have a little spot like this to primp and prep in, don’t you think? And that chunky hunky marble is divine.

You can tell that this is a forever home not only by the thoughtfulness poured into every nook and cranny, but the fact that there are a lot of investment pieces in here. Getting this look may not be easy (and come at a price!) but here are a few pieces that will help you on your way:

A big part of this home is mixing patterns, even though it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly so. The custom curtains, pillows, wallpaper and rugs each lend so much to their spaces! So if you’re going for this look, start there. Etsy is always a great resource for custom!! Also make sure to mix in plenty of dutch modern to offset the traditional. And I gotta say I’m loving all of this rust for fall! It’s so warm and yummy. What about you?
