There’s a new kind of chic – maybe we can even dare to call it glam – that’s been surfacing in recent years that I’m really into. And this Park Avenue home designed by Studio DB is the perfect example of what it looks like to me. Mod shapes, whimsical moments, custom details; It’s a style that hits right in between maximalism and minimalism. It’s layered, but not overly. Colorful but not overly. There is pattern. There is texture. And, you better believe that there is style.
You’ll notice that the living spaces in this home offer plenty of curved lines – a look that’s very now but also very helpful for smaller spaces. There is a nice flow to rooms where hard edges have been avoided, and I have to say that – for the most part – I’m a fan. (PS – Did you notice that artwork? It’s actually the Frame TV, and the only reason it even registered to me is because I have that art saved as one of my favorites!)
Also, can we get a hallelujah, amen for that rug!?
This dining room is everything. It’s also the reason I found this house tour, stalking it on instagram, finding the source, and immediately determining that the rest of the home needed to be shared. But really, this room is the star. The lighting alone is simply amazing. So fun, so modern, so angular, paired with that chinoiserie wallpaper and super modern table and chairs? Yes yes yes. This is the sign of TALENT my friends!
Love these velvety built-ins too. Speaking of which – how are we feeling about velvet? Still loving it? Over it? I’m curious!
Believe it or not, the details in this home get even better when it comes to the kitchen and baths. Let’s look at the out-of-the-ordinary elements in this room alone. Black subway tile and white grout on the side of the island. A totally cool (vintage?) lighting fixture. One major hit of color in what I believe might be the refrigerator. And pocket doors because – practicality.
Through the kitchen we get a glimpse of a cozy family room where things relax quite a bit, but the wallpaper party continues. You’ve also gotta love the bold blue frames mixed in on the gallery wall!
I adore the transition of wallpapers in this corner office. Also, what a perfect spot for a little desk. It still gets natural light, so you wouldn’t hate sitting here, but it’s away from everything else so even at its most cluttered you don’t have the eyesore of paperwork and bills sitting in the middle of your living room.
Somewhere in the mix of these spaces (the dining room, perhaps?) is this amazing little closet as a minibar. This is one of those details that I live for. The red of the cabinetry perfectly matching the red in the sconce, but something you would never know unless you opened this up an shot this photo right at this angle. I would probably instagram this corner every day.
Even better, please note the proximity of the bedroom to the wine. We’re talking serious bonus points here.
The bedrooms in this house aren’t overly exciting, but they do maintain that attention to detail that we’ve been seeing. Case in point, the green pulls and tray on this custom nightstand, and that subtle pink in the sconce. The use of color in this home is seriously amazing. It walks the line of playful and chic so well, and it feels like a happy little surprise in each room.
Where there is brass in the master bath, the children’s baths get a dose of color, and I love the continuity of this idea throughout the spaces! The brass is incredibly gorgeous, but the other colors are so fun. It’s hard to pick a favorite! I also want to comment on the mix of materials here because lately I’ve really seem some bathrooms going a bit crazy with so many tile and stone elements. This one really hits the mark for me!
Now, on to the children’s rooms…
Again, so fun with the hits of color! And see below? That’s what I was talking about with the trimwork in the bathrooms. Oh, and they have the most fun wallpaper, too! (No surprise at this point!)
This room is so sophisticated, I originally mistook it for the master bedroom! But I quickly realized that it must be for a teen girl? This would have been my heaven at around 14! A window seat, a built-in vanity… it’s perfect.
I would happily revisit my youth if it meant living in this bed and bath.
