I don’t know why I’m extra excited about Easter this year – maybe it’s because I love when our family finally all gets together, but either way, I felt inspired to put together a ton of fun DIY’s to go with our fresh and modern Easter tabletop (which you’ll see tomorrow!) starting with our take on a modern Easter floral centerpiece!

The pieces might take a little extra work to gather, but they’ll be worth it!

Materials //

  • Outer wire or mesh bowl (something you can see the moss through!)
  • Smaller solid bowl to go inside wire bowl
  • Floral Foam (can also use chicken wire)
  • Green Moss (from a nursery, craft store or floral supply)
  • Garden or Kitchen Shears
  • Hyacinths or your preference for springtime flowers! (we used 3 bunches)

I love this modern white windowpane basket that we found on Amazon (hello prime shipping – you can still get it in time for Easter!) but here are a few more options too!

Step 1 //

Start by cutting the floral foam to fit the bowl as best possible. Soak the foam in the bowl – note, if you’ve never used this stuff, first of all, it’s magic. Secondly, it soaks up a LOT of water. I like to keep it in the sink with a steady low stream of water to allow it to really absorb.

Step 2 //

Line the outer wire bowl with moss! It’ll hide the inner bowl. Then place the small solid bowl inside the basket. Now we’re ready to arrange!

Step 3 //

Here comes the challenging part – getting the flowers into the foam. For stronger stems, you can stick the flowers right into the foam, but for hyacinths, this is not a good idea – their stems will break with too much pressure. Instead, use your pinky finger (or a small stick) to create the hole where you want the hyacinth to go and then place the flower into it, gently. Don’t worry about bunching them too closely.

You can leave a little room between the florals here as we’ll be filling the spaces with moss. I placed the leaves of the flower around the circumference of the bowl and between the floral foam rather than trying to force them into the foam.

Step 4 //

Once the flowers are all in place, take your moss and fill in wherever you can see the foam. I also had to tuck in a bit more moss around the inner bowl in parts where it was showing on the side after shifting a bit. And that’s it! You’re all set for a fresh Easter brunch or dinner!
