I thought it was high time we do a winter cocktail recipe around here, so I thought we’d give something new a try with a heart-warming recipe for Valentine’s Day (awwwww).

This warm Whiskey Chai cocktail has a little twist – a hit of cinnamon chocolate to sweeten the deal! Bonus: these are perfect for a cozy night at home for two, but easy enough to make a big batch of as well.

And if you feel so inclined to make one for your Valentine… don’t forget to top it with a cinnamon cardamom heart!

Pour the melting chocolate (we used two pieces), chai and milk into a saucepan over low medium heat and continuously whisk until the chocolate is totally melted and the concoction fully warmed.

Use the frother tool to foam up the chai milk as much as possible. Pro tip: This can be easier to do in small batches instead of all at once.  Add 1.5oz of bourbon into a small mug or cup (we used our favorite tea cups!) and pour the liquid into the cup, reserving the froth for the top!

Adding the hearts is easier than it looks! Let the foam settle a bit into the cup, then use some stiff paper to create a heart template and place over the mug. Lightly sprinkle a mix of cinnamon and cardamom over the opening, and you’ve got your heart! It’s best to sprinkle from higher above to avoid clumping!

If you’re not into the hearts, add a big sprinkle of our new favorite addition – my friend Ashley’s Salty Sprinkles (do you read her blog, Not Without Salt!?). I picked a batch of this goodness up this summer and love to put it on top of hot chocolate, cookies, you name it. You could also mix this into the cocktail prior to the foaming process!

If you like things a little less sweet, try this recipe with your own chai tea instead of concentrate. There’s much less sugar that way and you get more of the spice flavor coming through! Feel free to leave out the whiskey for the kids or you non drinkers too – it’s just as good!
