After a year full of ups and downs, I wanted nothing more than to dream up a fabulous, festive Christmas tabletop that felt joyful and full of holiday magic. But pulling it together? Well that was a whole other story. After so many years of holiday tabletops, it’s hard to continuously top yourself!
I wanted something that felt fresh, but also somewhat traditional. A lot of layers, but not too crazy. And I knew I definitely wanted to bring on the color! In the end, two things drove the vision behind it all and that’s what we’ve called this theme: Plaid & Poinsettias!
Being fairly obsessed with layered British style right now, I wanted to infuse a bit of that feeling into this setting! The Brits are so good at cozy and whimsy. I could see this setting at home in a grand London flat or a Cotswold cottage, and that was the ultimate goal. To get a traditional feel in a fresh setting. I think it’s what we do best!
A good portion of this inspiration also came from the Molly Goddard SS16 London Show. It was so influential that I actually thought I’d show you the image so you can see where we pulled some of our ideas from! Infusing elements of fashion into my tabletops is one of my favorite things to do…
The flowing plaid and the ruffled fabric layered onto the bench was a direct result of this mix and I think it’s so fun! I mean, it’s holiday, so why NOT!? I sourced the tablecloth and ruffles from a fabric store to achieve a more fashion forward look, and – in my opinion – it totally worked.
The floral garland was created with quite a bit of getting inventive. I’m sure a seasoned florist would have done it differently, but in case you’re wondering how it all came together: First, I laid down a base of bay leaves and pink peppercorn. Next, I made tiny, individual, low arrangements that I nestled into the greens. After that, I just kept layering the carnations and greens into the garland to create fullness!
My favorite details on the table might be the ornaments tucked into the floral runner! Especially the pink birds. They aren’t obvious at first, so when you find them it’s a bit of a treat! 
Doing a low runner also means that the setting can stay in place while you feast – no dodging big arrangements to speak with people across the table! 
I always like to leave guests a little gift at their table setting, but especially at Christmas!! It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. In fact, while this table my feel fancy, so much of it is really accessible and achievable! We placed little star cookies, mini Meri Meri ornaments, and striped crackers at every plate just to add a festive touch. 
It seems like every year I have a new favorite, but between the color scheme, playful layers, and fun details, this might be the best Christmas tabletop yet. Here’s how to get the look!
