While I’m busy ticking off boxes on our wedding to do list (five months and counting!), there is one major item that I’m very happy to have completed – our wedding invitations! Talk about an overwhelming task.

Weighing the look of watercolor vs. letterpress, or tradition vs. technology… it can make a girl’s head swim. So, once again we turned to Minted to help us come up with some ideas…

If you read my last wedding update then you know that our inspiration is very driven by our love of the Pacific Northwest, ferry rides, and our location for the big day – San Juan Island. Our Save the Dates captured this perfectly, but for our invitation suite we wanted to go a little more formal and classic.

So how did we get to a decision? Play the video to find out a little more about us, our process, and how we ended up with a very simple (and very us!) wedding suite.

I mentioned above that we had a lot of debating to do. The problem with weddings is that really… there are no wrong decisions. There are just tons of beautiful options that can take you in many directions. (Yes that’s as wonderful and awful as it sounds!)

So, we went back and forth on ferns or stripes or customizing the menu from our Save the Date (which you can totally do, by the way because Minted offers tons of design help!). But, ultimately, ended up with something incredibly classic: letterpress.

To tie them into the Save the Dates, we used the same main font, and similar color family (green, grey and white) and were able to select from the script and serif fonts that we like the most for readability and simplicity.

What I loved about the process was that even though, yes, you’re buying invitations that anyone else could also be buying, every aspect is customized so well that it feels like you. And the more you take advantage of design help and custom options, the more you come away with an invitation that’s truly unique.

Not only that, but once that major detail is taken care of there are many more additions you can source through Minted. Their wedding websites are particularly helpful (see how ours looks here) and we actually opted to take our RSVP’s digital as a way to save some green (both the tree and money varietal).

There were a few items that also saved us on time which we all are short on these days – custom stamps and pre-addressed envelopes, I’m looking at you!

The best part, of course, is having invitations that so perfectly reflect the tone of our wedding day! They are just one piece of a larger puzzle that is constantly being put together around here. And because I’m so ahead of the game for the invites, I’ve even been thinking of ways to further personalize them before they go out – maybe a little watercolor fern or envelope lining? It’s no fun if I show you all the details before the big day! You’ll just have to wait and see how it all comes together…
