On December 30th I woke up with a big reality check – our wedding is officially 6 months away! I knew the second the new year arrived it would be time for me to really dive into wedding planning… and so it begins.
Over the holidays, we decided that instead of Christmas cards, we’d send out our Save the Dates, which actually really helped me hone in a bit more on our wedding palette!
I instantly fell for the watercolor botanicals in this design we found on Minted – especially the fern which always feels very Pacific Northwest to me, while still having a ‘garden’ feel to it. Much like our venue…
We immediately fell in love with this Roche Harbor on San Juan Island when we visited last summer. We always spend some time on ‘the islands’ throughout the year, but this was the first time we had been to San Juan together and the charm of this place is hard to resist.
You may remember my last post on wedding palettes that I was considering, well this moodboard captures a bit more of where I’m leaning these days. Soft greys, pale blues, sage greens… very romantic. But you know I’ll be adding my own dramatic twist to this. There will undoubtedly be an accent color or two to set things off, and maybe even a dose of black for sophistication!
If you were to ask me to describe what we’re going for, I’d say it’s a bit beach meets garden, with a dose of Italian romance.
In the meantime, I’ve got my work cut out for me because, while the gardens would be a beautiful spot for a ceremony, I’ve decided that I think we’ll do our vows in front of this big dramatic fireplace in the courtyard that leads up to the reception area!
It’s a bit more private, and then we don’t have to worry about heels sinking into the lawn. I wish I had more photos of this area because there’s an adorable double staircase that I’ll be walking down in my dress that leads up to the venue deck. (Cue the heart-eyes emoji.) I can’t wait to transform this space!
What do you think? I’m envisioning a huge garland of greenery dripping from the roof … maybe some massive planters on each end? Should we put something in the fireplace itself? Cafe lights? Are you guys digging my wedding updates? I hope so! We plan on going up to Roche Harbor again in March, so I’ll get more photos then. In the meantime, I’ll be dreaming and scheming away!
