Two weeks from now, my family and a few additional friends will be huddled around a table, pausing from our busy lives to give thanks and do what we do best – share a fantastic meal together. Because, to me, Thanksgiving is about simplicity, and simple joys, I wanted to create a tabletop that conveyed the same…

For my tables, I love to use unexpected colors – like lilac in the fall! It’s so complimentary to the rich hues of the season, so I started there. We all have white dinnerware, right? So if you’re creating a table on a budget, don’t worry about purchasing new dishes – it’s all about adding details that make it feel special! The palette is what really feels fresh and unexpected about this setting.

The lilac Sferra napkins were just want I wanted, and I was lucky enough to find some sterling roses to complete the palette in the floral arrangement! I added sprigs of berries and leaves in vibrant orange to contrast and bring in that fall feel.
Because the theme here was simplicity, I wanted dishes that felt a notch above everyday, and provided a little more interest and detail. The ‘bistro’ dinnerware was perfect – soft and simple with its scalloped edges.

Then came the silverware. I must admit that my own ‘everyday’ flatware is incredibly boring. And while I tend to use my gold set for finer occasions, I wanted something really special and different here that felt more subtle and classic. The tortoise handles on this flatware perfectly complimented the lilac linens, with their flecks of lighter resin, complimented by amber glassware.

For an easy nod to the Thanksgiving holiday, I used a silver wishbone (my own) to add a quick ‘Thanks’ to place settings. (Get beautiful gold ones here!) These make the perfect gift to your guests, too!

And here’s a little tip – if you’re on a budget, simply opt for veggies as your florals. Try using kale, cabbage, or other leafy vegetables (in shades of purple) as your centerpiece, and steal some berries and leaves from your own backyard or neighborhood.
Are you excited for the holidays yet? I have to say, Thanksgiving is generally my favorite – I can’t wait to see how everyone else celebrates! This weekend I’ll get to practice some dishes for a ‘Friendsgiving’ – I’m sure I’ll be sharing some recipes and more with you!
